The majestic Sultan Riau Mosque stands as a reminder of a glorious sultanate that once existed. It houses royal tombs of the past Sultans of Riau. The descendants of the Sultan still live on the island. The island also hosts the Sultan's palace, a beautiful dignified blend of Javanese and Dutch architecture.
